Swiss Craft's History

Swiss Craft was established in 1914 by Walter Hildebrand. Walter, a Swiss immigrant to the United States, purchased five Schiffli looms and began to produce embroidered emblems of beauty and quality in his new facility at 934 W. North Avenue in Chicago (now known as the "River North" area).

In 1953, Hans and Christine Hug, also of Swiss descent, purchased the business from the Hildebrand family. A few years after their purchase, Hans succumbed to a heart attack. Chris continued to operate the company from the day of his death until 1985.

In 1985 Marty DeBoer, who had been a customer of Swiss Craft since 1979, purchased the company from Chris. In 1989, the company was moved seven miles west to 6478 W. North Avenue in Chicago. Marty refined Swiss Craft to its current state by providing leadership for his family of employees in a comfortable and pleasant facility.

Marty sold Swiss Craft to Al Messier, the owner of Team Print and Salkeld Sports in 2004. Merging these companies has proven to be beneficial to all aspects of our business, which is now a part of Collegiate Pacific, a sporting goods giant across the United States.

In the Spring of 2006, Swiss Craft moved its embroidery and domestic emblem manufacturing capabilities to Team Print's newly expanded apparel decoration facility in Bourbonnais, IL. Thanks to the merger, Swiss Craft is now now able to serve its customers with a wider range of products and services, including athletic tackle twill and screen printing.

Swiss Craft is still one of a shrinking number of embroidery companies with the capability to manufacture large runs of high quality emblems in the USA.

Founded by the Hildebrands, continued by the Hugs, and carried forward today with innovative leadership, the key to Swiss Craft's success has always been quality embroidery and top-notch customer service.
